Richard Smith

Richard Smith, DTN's Tokyo-based Far East correspondent, has been reporting on Japanese and South Korean agriculture and food trade issues since 2003. He writes for Agri-Pulse, Capital Press and Livestock Weekly, as well as agribusiness publications in Australia, Canada, England, Ireland and New Zealand.

 

Born and raised in Quebec City, Canada, Smith graduated from his hometown's Universite Laval with a major in sociology and a minor in journalism. Following a career as a freelance reporter writing on various subjects in his hometown, he has been living in Japan since 1996. Through 2001 and 2002, he was editor-in-chief of Number 1 Shimbun, the monthly publication of the Foreign Correspondents' Club of Japan.
