Spot Ethanol Prices Nosedive on Rising Supply

Spot ethanol prices fell sharply Wednesday after the Energy Information Administration released data that showed domestic ethanol stocks climbed 100,000 bbl to 20.4 million bbl for the week-ended May 15. Production rose 46,000 bpd or 5.0% last week to a 958,000 bpd three-month high.

Prompt ethanol at the Argo supply hub near Chicago was offered at $1.64 per gallon, while any May Argo transfer traded at $1.61 per gallon, down 3.0 cents. Chicago ethanol under Rule 11 traded at $1.61 to $1.64 per gallon, down 3.0 cents. On the West Coast, ethanol for this week transfer in northern California traded down 8.0 cents at $1.74 per gallon.
