DTN Digital Yield Tour 2025

Results From the 2025 DTN Digital Yield Tour

The 2025 DTN Digital Yield Tour reflects plentiful rainfall over the growing season. Darker green shades in the map reflect higher corn yield averages, with the darkest green reflecting yields of up to 240 bushels per acre or higher. (DTN map by Scott Williams)

The U.S. corn crop could break through trendline yield estimates for the first time since 2018, setting a new national record in the process, according to the results of the 2025 DTN Digital Yield Tour.

All 11 states included in the tour are forecast to exceed their five-year corn yield averages. While only one state is forecast to set a record, four others are forecast to produce their second-largest yield averages, lifting the prospects of a trendline-or-better national average.

USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) estimates trendline corn yield at 181.5 bushels per acre (bpa). The last time corn yields surpassed the trendline estimate was in 2018, when final yields came in at 176.4 bpa compared to the 174 bpa trend, DTN Lead Analyst Rhett Montgomery said.

"Interestingly, conditions to end July that year were very similar to what we are seeing this year," he said, referencing USDA's crop condition ratings. "Let's just say we outproduce the trend by a similar percentage as in 2018, that would point to a 183.5 bushel per acre yield, conservative compared to some private analysts."

Soybean yield estimates, although strong, are running close to historical averages.

"For the vast majority of the Corn Belt, rainfall has been great -- frequent and moderate to heavy," said DTN Ag Meteorologist John Baranick. DTN's reporting highlighted the pockets of trouble, which are often due to too much moisture this year.

Over the week, DTN published details about corn and soybean crops in 11 states.

Digital Yield Tour estimates are based on DTN's proprietary yield models as of Aug. 1. The models update every two weeks and do not incorporate weather forecasts. Like 2024, the tour will not be releasing national yield estimates. DTN's models forecast at the field level. While statistical inferences could be made to generate national estimates, DTN is still doing its diligence on the accuracy of those methods. You can read more about how DTN's models work here: https://www.dtnpf.com/….

Updated yield model results will be shared on Tuesday, Aug. 19, in the DTN Ag Summit Series webinar. The webinar will also feature a fall weather outlook by Baranick and a grain market outlook that incorporates the latest USDA crop production forecasts, led by DTN contributing analyst Todd Hultman. "Questions About Pollination, Water Hide in Illinois' Tall Corn Stands," https://www.dtnpf.com/…

Illinois can be a bit of a wild card when it comes to crop yields. With 390 miles separating the state top to bottom and the inherent differences that come with it, estimates tend to get lumped into northern, central and southern Illinois designations.

-- Wisconsin

"Wisconsin Corn Yields Predicted to Beat 5-Year Average in 2025, Flirt With Records," https://www.dtnpf.com/…

The 2025 DTN Digital Yield Tour estimates Wisconsin at 194.3 bpa and soybeans at 51.6 bpa, after June's active weather pattern made drought recovery possible through the summer.

Tuesday, Aug. 12:

-- Iowa

"Iowa Farmers on Track for Record Corn Yield of 223.7 BPA With 2025 Crop," https://www.dtnpf.com/…

The DTN Digital Yield Tour projects Iowa corn yields will reach a record 223.7 bushels per acre statewide while soybean yields could fall just short of a record at 62.3 bpa.

-- Minnesota

"Minnesota Corn Yields Could Average 199.1 BPA in 2025, Challenging Records," https://www.dtnpf.com/…

The 2025 DTN Digital Yield Tour estimates Minnesota corn at 199.1 bpa and soybeans at 51.3 bpa.

Wednesday, Aug. 13:

-- North Dakota

"North Dakota Expects Strong Corn Crop if Rains Stop and Temperatures Rise," https://www.dtnpf.com/…

DTN's Digital Yield Tour forecasts North Dakota's statewide average corn yield at 151.9 bushels per acre, which is above average but not record-setting, and soybeans at 34.7 bpa, which is about even with the five-year average.

-- South Dakota

"Digital Yield Tour Predicts Above-Average Corn Yields, Below-Average Soybeans in South Dakota," https://www.dtnpf.com/…

The 2025 DTN Digital Yield Tour estimates South Dakota corn yields to average 169.2 bushels per acre statewide, while soybean yields are forecast at 43.8 bpa.

The 2025 DTN Digital Year Tour forecasts Ohio corn yields will average 193.7 bushels per acre, while soybeans are estimated at 52.7 bpa. Experts say soybean yields could exceed the forecast, but the potential hinges on August rain.

Friday, Aug. 15:

-- Nebraska

"Nebraska Expects Above-Average Corn, Soybean Yields Despite Dry Spring," https://www.dtnpf.com/…
