Supply Crunch Boosts Spot Ethanol Prices in Early Trade

Spot ethanol prices rose in early thin trade Monday, gaining alongside higher Chicago Mercantile Exchange corn futures amid talk demand was rising ahead of supply for both products.

Traders pointed to last week's federal data showing total inventories of ethanol at record lows. Part of the problem, said one trader, is no imports of ethanol have come into the country from Brazil in weeks to alleviate the supply crunch.

Any June delivered Argo ethanol traded at $2.54 gallon, up 3 cents, while any June New York Harbor ethanol changed hands at $2.635 per gallon, up 2 cents.
