As first reported by Politico, farmers who make more than $900,000 in adjusted gross income could become eligible for the Market Facilitation Program under language in the supplemental appropriations bill passed last week by the House of Representatives.

Politico reported, "A House aide said the provision was aimed at helping Washington state cherry growers, though it would apply to all producers who seek trade assistance, if passed."

Specifically, the language in HR 268 states the $900,000 AGI cap would not apply to a person or legal entity if at least 75% of the AGI for that person or legal entity comes from farming, ranching or forestry related activities.

The provision, if approved by the Senate and signed by the President, would allow higher-income farmers to receive MFP payments of up to $125,000. https://www.congress.gov/…

Tariffs in Texas

The group Tariffs Hurt the Heartland reports new data released at a town-hall event in Houston shows that Texas businesses have now paid an extra $1.1 billion in tariffs, including $364 million in October alone. During October, Texas companies paid more than 12 times the tariffs they paid for the same products a year earlier.

“Retailers rely on imported merchandise to provide American families products they need at prices they can afford,” said Texas Retailers Association President & CEO, George Kelemen. “From clothing to electronics, many consumer products are no longer mass-produced in the United States. Because of the trade war with China, local businesses are already feeling the impact of the tariffs. Faced with limited resources, small retailers have less control over their supply chains and cannot absorb higher costs from tariffs.”

Tariffs Hurt the Heartland stated new national data showed U.S. businesses paid $6.2 billion in tariffs in October alone, "the highest amount for any month in U.S. history." https://tariffshurt.com/…

Agribusinesses joined other business groups this week calling on the Trump Administration to remove the steel and aluminum tariffs imposed against Canada and Mexico. https://www.dtnpf.com/…
