A team of nutritionists from some of Ecuador's leading livestock feed companies recently met with representatives from the U.S. Grains Council to learn about U.S.-produced DDGS, according to an article by the Council (http://bit.ly/…).

The purpose of the meeting was to educate the Ecuadorian nutritionists about their preconceived notions about the quality, handling, storage and purchasing of DDGS. The Council held the meeting in Costa Rica with local feed producers who shared their experiences using DDGS for more than 10 years.

The team from Costa Rica talked about the quality of DDGS and how it has become an essential ingredient in that country after a group of companies had developed quality guidelines and import parameters in order to purchase top quality product at the best price.

The Council also learned recently that Ecuador has imposed a 12% duty on DDGs imports. As this could hinder DDGS' competitiveness, the Council is planning to work with the country's feed industry to lobby the government to remove the tariff.
