D6 RINs Soar on Talk of Tight Market for the Credits

Spot ethanol prices were mixed early Monday, with "system-wide selling" and a decline in CBOT corn futures pressuring Chicago spot ethanol values at the Kinder Morgan-operated Argo hub near Chicago, said trade sources.

However, the values for tradable ethanol compliance credits soared, with D6 Renewable Identification Numbers for 2013 RINs trading twice at 75 cents, up 6 cents on the day, and offered at 80 cents without a bid.

The RIN market is tight, said trade sources, with production at U.S. ethanol plants down 13.5% during the four weeks through Feb. 22 versus the comparable year-ago period the latest data from the Energy Information Administration shows.
