USDA Nebraska Fdr Cattle Wkly Wtd Avg 05/27 10:25 AMS_1860 MARS Nebraska Weekly Livestock Auction Summary -, Livestock Weighted Average Report for 05/19/2025 - Final Summary This Week Last Reported Last Year ------------------------------------------------------------ Total Receipts: ------------------------------------------------------------ FEEDER CATTLE 5319 10335 5353 Compared to last week, steers less than 700 lbs lightly tested but a lower undertone was noted. Over 700 lbs sold steady to 2.00 higher. Heifers sold unevenly steady throughout the week. Demand was good with quite a few buyers around the auctions and internet buying was also active. With todays active market many fall calf producers are selling bawlers instead of weaning them. Million-dollar rain over the Memorial Day weekend across most areas of the state. Nice, slow moving rain showers lasted most of the weekend, bringing much needed moisture that soaked into the ground making mud for the first time in many areas this year. Nebraska feedlots' sales continue to set all-time high prices. Live sales sold 1.00-2.00 higher from 230.00-231.00. TREND: The trend for July corn is down.

NONCOMMERCIAL OUTLOOK: Noncommercial corn traders held a net-short futures position of 95,494 contracts as of June 10, an increase of 14,435 contracts as solid crop conditions and friendly weather kept sellers active during the CFTC reporting period.

COMMERCIAL OUTLOOK: Commercial corn traders held a net-long position of 114,551 contracts as of June 10, an increase of 9,826 contracts, week-over-week. The July 2025 contract is priced 16 cents higher than the September 2025 contract, a spread that strengthened significantly over the past week. DTN's National Cash Index indicated that corn basis firmed over the most recent week to 22 cents under the July board, an improvement of 1 cent on the...

Traders' concerns about the livestock complex being overbought and over-extended have resurfaced today as all three of the livestock markets are trading lower into Tuesday's noon hour. Southern asking prices are noted at $238 plus, but no trade has developed yet.
