Compared to last week:  Slaughter steers and heifers 4.00 to 5.00 higher, 
except non-implanted cattle steady to firm.  Good demand for these long time 
fed, very high quality grading steers and heifers.  Packer buyers showed more 
interest in buying cattle this week.  Weights of steers and heifers are heavy 
as producers have fed their cattle longer.   Boxed beef values continue to rise 
and Live Cattle futures were supportive this week as well.  Cattle carrying 
some tag as pen conditions were soft before the arctic weather moved in last 
week.  1 full load of steers, 6 full loads of heifers, balance part loads and 
stock trailer loads.  

Slaughter lambs mostly steady, except 70-90 lbs 10.00 to 20.00 lower.  
Slaughter ewes steady to firm, instances of 10.00 to 20.00 higher on Utility 
ewes.  Good demand demand for slaughter lambs, very good demand for slaughter 
ewes.  Good demand for feeder lambs.  There was some pressure on the market 
this week due to the large winter storm that struck the eastern half of the

TREND: The trend for March corn is sideways for now.

NONCOMMERCIAL OUTLOOK: Noncommercial corn traders held a net-short futures position of 51,704 contracts as of Jan. 20 and were net-sellers of 18,281 contracts during the CFTC reporting period following a bearish surprise in the Crop Production and WASDE reports released by USDA on Jan. 12.

COMMERCIAL OUTLOOK: Commercial corn traders held a net-long position of 68,044 contracts as of Jan. 20 and were net-buyers of 19,121 contracts through the CFTC reporting period. The March 2026 contract is priced 7 3/4 cents lower than the May 2026 contract, mostly steady through the week. National average corn basis firmed a penny through the week to 35 cents under the March board.
