USDA South Dakota Weekly Auction Summary

USDA South Dakota Weekly Auction Summary 11/03 07:20 AMS_2027 MARS South Dakota Weekly Cattle Auction Summary -, Livestock Weighted Average Report for 10/27/2025 - Final Summary This Week Last Reported Last Year ------------------------------------------------------------ Total Receipts: ------------------------------------------------------------ FEEDER CATTLE 44178 51663 52376 SLAUGHTER CATTLE 1455 1219 1562 Compared to last week: Steer calves 15.00 to 35.00 lower, heifer calves 10.00 to 20.00 lower. Yearling feeder steers 10.00 to 15.00 lower, yearling feeder heifers 5.00 to 15.00 lower. Good demand for spring born steer and heifer calves, yet the market was under a lot of pressure again coming from the futures market. These good ranch raised calves continue to come to town and are met by plenty of buyers who want to get these good light calves bought while they are available, yet they are now very uncertain as to what price level they should be bought at. Good demand for yearlings, very dependent upon flesh condition though as cattle feeders who just a few weeks ago were convinced that the market was going to get higher, now are uncertain about the future direction. --------------------------------------------------------------- FEEDER CATTLE --------------------------------------------------------------- BULLS - TREND: The trend for December corn is revised to sideways.

NONCOMMERCIAL OUTLOOK: Noncommercial corn traders held a net-short futures position of 51,186 contracts as of September 23, an increase of 15,017 contracts during the CFTC reporting period as traders turned to selling amid technical pressure in the corn market.

COMMERCIAL OUTLOOK: Commercial corn traders held a net-long position of 79,646 contracts as of September 23, the most recent CFTC report. The December 2025 contract is priced 12 1/2 cents lower than the March 2026 contract, another 1 1/4 cents firmer this week on thoughts of lower than expected U.S. yields and extremely strong nearby demand. AgHost Livestock Close

It was another disappointing day for the livestock complex as the market saw the cattle contracts close limit lower as fear and worry continue to plague the market. Some light cash cattle trade reported at $360 in the North, which is $2.00 higher than last week's weighted average, and at $232 in the South, which is $4.00 lower than last week's weighted average.
