DTN Webinar to Examine Pasture Conditions, Hay Markets and the Future of the Cowherd
MT. JULIET, Tenn. (DTN) -- Profitability is hard to miss in today's cattle market, but just because the market's 10-year cycle is off-kilter doesn't mean these prices are here to stay.
Between persistent drought conditions in parts of cattle country, trade disruptions and shifting consumer demands, the traditional pattern of herd expansion and contraction is facing new tests.
"I know the cattle market is absolutely exhilarating right now. It's a fun time to have the opportunity to market and sell cattle, but just because prices are high, that doesn't mean that we can be lackadaisical in knowing and understanding our market," said DTN Livestock Analyst ShayLe Stewart.
Stewart is one of four presenters at the upcoming DTN Ag Summit Series webinar, "Future of the Cowherd," scheduled for June 24, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. CDT, which will deliver critical analysis and forecasts that could help inform and influence your strategic decisions in the months ahead.

DTN Ag Meteorologist John Baranick will open the session with a summer pasture and hay weather outlook, using DTN's proprietary weather models to provide attendees with forecasts specifically tailored to forage production concerns.
DTN Livestock Editor Jennifer Carrico will follow with an analysis of hay market trends, including how this summer's weather is influencing supply and demand.
The webinar's centerpiece will feature Oklahoma State University Livestock Marketing Specialist Dr. Derrell Peel, who will examine the structural changes occurring in the national cow herd. Peel will address the concerning lack of anticipated build-back in the cattle population, and what this means for the industry's future configuration.
Stewart will conclude the presentations with a comprehensive cattle market outlook, incorporating recent data from major cattle sales and USDA's June Cattle on Feed report to project price trends and profitability potential for the coming year.
