DTN Weekly DDG Price Higher on Average
MINNEAPOLIS (DTN) -- The DTN average price for domestic distillers dried grains (DDG) from 35 locations reporting for the week ended Jan. 12 was $274 per ton, up $3 on average from one week ago. Prices were mixed, but overall ended up slightly higher on average, even as plant production increased last week.
The Energy Information Administration (EIA) at midweek showed the first gain in domestic ethanol production in five weeks, up 99,000 barrels per day (bpd) or 12.7% to 943,000 bpd, 6.3% lower than a year ago for the week ended Jan. 6. Output in the Midwest rose 101,000 bpd to 895,000 bpd, down 5.5% from this time in 2022.

Based on the average of prices collected by DTN, the value of DDG relative to corn for the week ended Jan. 12 was 1.14%. The value of DDG relative to soybean meal was 53.41%, and the cost per unit of protein for DDG was $10.15 compared to the cost per unit of protein for soybean meal at $10.80.
In its weekly DDGS export update, the U.S. Grains Council said: "On the export market, Barge CIF NOLA prices pulled back for the first time in five weeks as barge freight rates ease lower. FOB NOLA offers are down $8 to $9 metric ton (mt) for February and March shipment with offers averaging $342/mt. U.S. rail rates are $5 to $6/mt higher as the logistics snarls from winter storms a few weeks ago are cleared and operations are returning to normal. Offers for 40-foot containers to Southeast Asia are down $4 to $7/mt this week as ocean freight rates pull back. February and March shipments CNF Southeast Asia averaged $412/mt as of midday Thursday."
