DTN Weekly DDG Price Slightly Higher on Average
MINNEAPOLIS (DTN) -- The DTN average price for domestic distillers dried grains (DDG) from 34 locations reporting for the week ended Aug. 18 was $232 per ton, up $1 versus one week ago. DDG prices were mixed, but ended slightly higher this week, finding support from the strength in cash soybean meal and lower plant production, even as cash corn prices were lower than one week ago. The DTN National Corn Index was down 23 cents versus one week ago due in part to the corn basis fading.
The Energy Information Administration (EIA) said Wednesday domestic production ethanol fell a second straight week, sliding 39,000 barrels per day (bpd) or 3.8% to 983,000 bpd, the lowest level since the end of April. Output for the week ended Aug. 12 was 10,000 bpd or 1% lower than the same week last year.

Based on the average of prices collected by DTN, the value of DDG relative to corn for the week ended Aug. 18 was 1.05%. The value of DDG relative to soybean meal was 51.62%, and the cost per unit of protein for DDG was $8.59, compared to the cost per unit of protein for soybean meal at $9.46. DTN's estimates moved to utilizing September futures since July has gone off the board.
In its weekly DDGS export update, the U.S. Grains Council said: "Barge CIF NOLA DDGS values are steady/$2 higher while FOB NOLA offers are up $10 metric ton (mt) for spot positions and up $7 to $9 for Q4 shipment. The DDGS container market remains highly mixed as greater container availability and lower ocean freight rates are combined with stronger international demand. Prices for 40-foot containers into Myanmar are down $20/mt this week while offers into Indonesia and Vietnam are up $17/mt. On average, containerized DDGS to Southeast Asia are up $5 at $388/mt."
