DTN Weekly DDG Price Higher on Average
OMAHA (DTN) -- The DTN average price for domestic distillers dried grains (DDG) from 34 locations reporting for the week ended April 14 was $298 per ton, up $4 on average versus one week ago. Prices are showing strength as supplies in some states are tight where run rates have been slower, and the higher cash corn price also adds to DDG price strength. The DTN National Corn Index is 34 cents higher versus one week ago.
Based on the average of prices collected by DTN, the value of DDG relative to corn for the week ended April 14 was 105.59%. The value of DDG relative to soybean meal was 64.59%, and the cost per unit of protein for DDG was $11.04, compared to the cost per unit of protein for soybean meal at $9.71.
The Energy Information Administration reported Wednesday that overall plant production fell to the lowest level since late February while demand increased 1.3%. Total ethanol production dropped a second week, falling 33,000 barrels per day (bpd) to 1.003 million bpd last week. Output was 2.9% higher than the same time in 2021, while the four-week average output totaled 1.027 million bpd, up 69,000 bpd from the four-week period of 2021. Still, domestic ethanol production has been above 1 million bpd in 24 of the past 26 weeks.
In its weekly DDGS export update, the U.S. Grains Council said: "Barge CIF NOLA and FOB Gulf DDGS values regained some of last week's losses amid an uptick in export purchase interest. Barge CIF NOLA offers are up $12-$14/metric ton for May/June while FOB Gulf offers are up $8/mt for May and up $13/mt for June and July. Prices for containerized DDGS into southeast Asia are steady/slightly lower this week after last week's declines. Brokers indicate offers for 40-foot containers to Southeast Asia are down $4/mt on average this week at $458 for May, June, and July shipment."
