A Peru company recently imported an additional 7,000 metric tons of U.S. dried distillers grains with solubles, according to a news release by the U.S. Grains Council (http://bit.ly/…).

The purchase by Gloria, Peru's largest dairy processor, was the result of DDGS feeding trials conducted jointly with the Council in 2011 on three commercial dairy farms. The results of the trial were publicized with the Peruvian dairy industry through publications and a series of workshops hosted by both the Council and Gloria.

Gloria has now imported more than 19,000 metric tons of U.S. DDGS worth more than $6 million since 2011 as a direct result of those feeding trials. The Council has assessed the possible market of the Peruvian dairy sector and determined that the country could potentially import as much as 60,000 metric tons of DDGS per year, worth approximately $16 million.

The Council plans to continue its efforts to market U.S. DDGS to Peru's dairy sector.
