Spot Ethanol Prices Ease Despite Bullish EIA Supply Data
The ethanol market was mixed in thin early trade, with spot prices of physically delivered product falling, while swaps and futures nudged higher on the Chicago Board of Trade.
A trade source said the physical market was weighed down by falling corn prices and profit-taking after recent rallies, while ethanol swaps and futures were supported by a bullish set of government supply data.
EIA data shows fuel ethanol stocks and domestic production both fell during the week-ended March 8. Total inventories fell 3.6% while production was down 1.0% week-on-week. Implied demand was up 1.0% for the week.
