Spot Ethanol Prices Soar After USDA Report
Spot ethanol prices spiked in midday trade Friday after the U.S. Department of Agriculture in a new report left unchanged its projected U.S. corn stocks as of Aug. 31, the end of the current crop year.
The market had expected an upward revision for end-of-season corn supply. Demand estimates from domestic ethanol producers held steady at 4.5 billion bushels. Prompt delivered ethanol at the Argo hub near Chicago traded at $2.49 gallon, up 3.5 cents on the day, while northern California prices were valued at $2.76 gallon, up 11 cents on the day.
