While the ethanol industry waits on EPA's announcement for the 2018 volume obligations, Sen. Charles Grassley, R-Iowa, told reporters on a call Tuesday that he doesn't think President Donald Trump will announce the blend obligations when Trump visits Iowa on Wednesday.

When asked, Grassley said he doesn't know for certain when the biofuel blend volumes will be announced, but "I think we're going to get it this week."

Trump will meet with leaders in the agricultural program at Kirkwood Community College to talk about precision agriculture with Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue and Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross. Trump will then hold a rally at the convention center in downtown Cedar Rapids in the evening. Grassley said he suggested Trump talk about agricultural trade and biofuels at the rally.

Essential Air Service

Grassley said he is not directly involved in the Senate work to maintain funding for Essential Air Service in rural airports. The White House wants to eliminate all funding for that program, which basically helps keep commercial air service afloat in small airports across the country. Grassley said at least four airports in Iowa would be directly affected. Grassley said Congress will ignore the proposal for cuts.

Sen. Deb Fischer, R-Nebraska, spearheaded a letter on Monday to Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao with a bi-partisan group of senators to protect the Essential Air Service program. https://www.fischer.senate.gov/…
