John Deere is rolling out significant makeovers of its 6M Series Cab tractors for 2020. The eight cab models of the 6M line feature improvements in comfort, visibility, maneuverability and technology.

"Based on extensive customer input and feedback, we've made the 2020 models even better by adding more options that customers can include based on what they want to accomplish and what best fit their operations," says Lyle McMillan, marketing manager for the John Deere 6 Family Tractors

The 6M is a popular tractor series, Deere says, performing work on dairy, livestock, hay and other diversified operations, including mowing and snow removal. The 2020 6M series tractors mount power plants ranging from 110 horsepower to 195 hp.

Deere's 2020 offering will include a new 140 hp 6140M. The small-frame (101.6-inch wheelbase) four-cylinder 6140 features a 20-hp Intelligent Power Management (IPM) feature for extra power. The 6110M, 6120M and 6130M also sport the 20-hp IPM system.

Potential owners will see immediately an obvious change to two 6Ms. That is the sharply sloped hoods of the 6110M and 6120M models. The sloped hood, a result of the redesigned engine package, creates a much-improved 18-foot front view distance for improved visibility during loader work.

The wheelbase of the 6110M and 6120M has been shortened 7 inches -- to 94.5 inches -- for improved maneuverability.

An optional (and sizable) panoramic glass roof gives the operator visible control of overhead loads. The glass can be covered with a sliding interior shade.

There are new suspension options for the two machines. "We've improved ride quality on [the 6110 and 6120], thanks to optional front-axle suspension system and cab/loader suspension system," McMillan said. These features mute any bounce that may occur when operators transport front-end loads.

The 6M tractors can be ordered with factory-installed front hitches and PTOs. It's a feature that gives owners the versatility to use front-mounted and powered attachments such as snow blowers and mowers. The 6Ms can be purchased with many factory-installed technology options, as well, including StarFire 6000, AutoTrac for guidance and JDLink telematics for fleet management.

A wiring harness has always been there, but Deere decided to include the unit as part of a tech upgrade to the 6Ms basic intelligence package. In effect, Deere has made its mid-spec tractors AutoTrac ready from the factory. JDLink telematics becomes another available option, available for fleet management, service updates and maintenance alerts.

6M tractors can be ordered loader-ready from the factory and matched with the John Deere designed and built 600R Loader. The loaders include LED lights, a curved boom and underslung leveling links. The 600R loaders have 4,100 pounds of lift capacity and 154 inches of lift height with cycle time of less than six seconds.

Inside the cab, Deere has removed the analog gauges from the steering console. Operators will now find that information on the cab's corner post display. The corner post display has two sections. The top displays operating engine RPMs, wheel speed, gearing and other performance information. The bottom allows operators to access and adjust tractor settings.

Other options include:

-- A compact CommandARM for fingertip machine and implement control.

-- Up to four electronic selective control valves (E-SCVs).

-- A new PowrReverser button on the joystick allows operators to change direction of travel without taking their hands off the steering wheel or loader joystick.

-- A hydraulic remote implement latch that allows operators to switch attachments without leaving the cab.

Deere says it is not "teching up" its 6M line at the expense of potential owners who are more comfortable with a mechanically enabled machine. But these are functions available to operators who wish to bring additional technology on-board their 6Ms.

A few nice, operator-friendly design touches include:

-- A plethora of optional LED lights for 360-viewing at night. Can you have too many? Probably not. But you can control the LEDs on theses 6Ms individually, too.

-- Magnetically attached side shields on the smaller 6110 and 6120 greatly enhance access to the engine area to change filters, check the fan and the radiator screens, remove debris.

-- Deere put the oil dipstick in an easily accessible spot to encourage -- and not discourage -- this daily maintenance ritual (or, it should be a ritual).

The sales pitch? Revamped and redesigned 6M Series Tractors can be ordered Sept. 18 and will be available later in 2020.
