Spot Ethanol Prices Pressured by Bearish EIA Data

Spot ethanol prices eased at the Argo hub near Chicago and New York Harbor after the Energy Information Administration reported continued buildup for ethanol supplies.

In recent days, the ethanol market has been buoyant with an improving demand outlook, but market activity dwindled today after EIA's data showed ethanol stocks rose 697,000 bbl to a seven-week high of 21.342 million bbl while demand fell 6,000 bpd to 879,000 bpd for the week-ended April 17.

Sources said Argo ethanol traded at $1.62 per gallon early and was then pegged at $1.60 per gallon for a 1.75-cents loss. New York Harbor ethanol traded at $1.70 and at $1.68 per gallon for a 1.0-cents loss.
