Weather Woes Continue to Support Ethanol Prices in Chicago

U.S. spot ethanol prices moved mostly higher this afternoon in Chicago and elsewhere amid tightening supply and concern domestic production and deliveries could again be disrupted by severe weather conditions. "There are a few producers having issues getting rail cars and having plant issues," said a broker. He added that some biorefineries weren't operating at their normal rates. Prompt delivered physical ethanol at the Argo hub near Chicago was valued at a $1.92 gallon, up 2.5cts on the day. Chicago ethanol traded under Rule 11 for this week's fuel shipments were talked at a $2.10 to $2.12 gallon bid/ask spread, up 0.5cts. Chicago swaps traded 4cts higher at $1.88 gallon for February ethanol delivered contracts.
