Spot Ethanol Prices Soar on Increased Buying, Tight Supply
Spot ethanol prices spiked 11 cents to $2.64 per gallon in Arizona on strong short-term demand ahead of the Labor Day holiday, which is less than two weeks away. Meanwhile, prices in other hubs across the country rose at least 3.5 cents thus far today.
Higher prices were also underpinned by federal data showing domestic production fell to a three-week low during the week-ended Aug. 16 while imports fell 47% to 19,000 bpd and implied demand spiked to a six-week high.
"There's some holiday panic buying going on," a trade source said. "The market is ridiculously strong," added another source.
