Weekly deliveries of canola and wheat have risen sharply in recent weeks, as producers take advantage of available space, filling existing new-crop contracts as well as selling cash grain in order to avoid further price erosion due to harvest pressure from both sides of the border.

The attached chart shows the weekly deliveries of selected grain, taking into account the Western Division primary elevator deliveries as well as the Western Division process elevator deliveries.

Year to date deliveries of wheat, at 1,807,300 metric tonnes as of week 5 ending on Sept. 8, is 46.5% higher than the five-year average from 2008 to 2012. Durum deliverie as of week 5, at 223,900 mt, is 14% below the five-year average. Canola deliveries as of week 5, at 909,600 mt, are 8.7% above the five-year average while dry pea deliveries as of week 5, at 725,400 mt, are 75.8% ahead of the 5-year average.
