USDA South Dakota Weekly Auction Summary

USDA South Dakota Weekly Auction Summary 05/27 09:00 AMS_2027 MARS South Dakota Weekly Cattle Auction Summary -, Livestock Weighted Average Report for 05/19/2025 - Final Summary This Week Last Reported Last Year ------------------------------------------------------------ Total Receipts: ------------------------------------------------------------ SLAUGHTER CATTLE 771 649 1214 FEEDER CATTLE 11264 17280 11888 Compared to last week: Feeder steers mostly steady, instances of 10.00 higher on front end, light fleshed kinds. Feeder heifers steady to 2.00 lower. Much lighter auction receipts this week, demand remains very good. Cash fed cattle market continues to be red hot as packers have to bid higher to get the cattle bought that they need, up to 231.00 this week. The strength of the fat market is keeping a fire lit under the feeder cattle market, and helping to advance the futures contracts. Cattle feeders' outgoing fed cattle are very profitable and they want to refill their pens while the cattle are available. Auction runs are becoming more sporadic now as we enter the summer marketing season. Good rains across the state have greatly improved the outlook for a full grazing season, another positive for the feeder cattle market as yearling operators want light fleshed cattle to turn out on grass. --------------------------------------------------------------- SLAUGHTER CATTLE --------------------------------------------------------------- DAIRY STEERS - Choice 2-3 (Per Cwt/Actual) Head Wt Range Avg Wt Price Range Avg Price Dressing 9 1432-1451 1440 188-191 189.66 Average DAIRY/BEEF HEIFERS - Choice 3-4 (Per Cwt/Actual) Head Wt Range Avg Wt Price Range Avg Price Dressing 32 1354-1564 1447 225-231 227.6 Average DAIRY/BEEF STEERS - Choice 2-3 (Per Cwt/Actual) Head Wt Range Avg Wt Price Range Avg Price Dressing 30 1382-1470 1438 223-230 226.23 Average DAIRY/BEEF STEERS - Choice 3-4 (Per Cwt/Actual) Head Wt Range Avg Wt Price Range Avg Price Dressing 35 1509-1740 1564 221-227.75 224.6 Average HEIFERS - Choice 2-4 (Per Cwt/Actual) Head Wt Range Avg Wt Price Range Avg Price Dressing 75 1255-1460 1336 229-233 231.06 Average 38 1267-1480 1385 228.5-235 231.97 Average Certified Prgms HEIFERS - Choice 3-4 (Per Cwt/Actual) Head Wt Range Avg Wt Price Range Avg Price Dressing 7 1630-1653 1643 228-230 228.85 Average Certified Prgms STEERS - Choice 2-3 (Per Cwt/Actual) Head Wt Range Avg Wt Price Range Avg Price Dressing 30 1414-1456 1438 229-231.5 230.24 Average 10 1453-1492 1480 235-235 235 Average Certified Prgms STEERS - Choice 3-4 (Per Cwt/Actual) Head Wt Range Avg Wt Price Range Avg Price Dressing 70 1533-1640 1553 227-234 230.98 Average 73 1541-1778 1639 230.5-238 232.97 Average Certified Prgms 13 1781-1918 1876 210-223 213.8 Average Heavy Weight --------------------------------------------------------------- FEEDER CATTLE --------------------------------------------------------------- BULLS - Medium and Large 1 (Per Cwt/Actual) Head Wt Range Avg Wt Price Range Avg Price 27 600-600 600 343-343 343 BULLS - Medium and Large 1-2 (Per Cwt/Actual) Head Wt Range Avg Wt Price Range Avg Price 20 413-413 413 442.5-442.5 442.5 HEIFERS - Large 1 (Per Cwt/Actual) Head Wt Range Avg Wt Price Range Avg Price 100 1088-1095 1092 229-229 229 25 1100-1125 1103 229-230 229.12 HEIFERS - Large 1-2 (Per Cwt/Actual) Head Wt Range Avg Wt Price Range Avg Price 5 1039-1039 1039 212-212 212 HEIFERS - Medium and Large 1 (Per Cwt/Actual) Head Wt Range Avg Wt Price Range Avg Price 27 373-396 381 400-422.5 414.7 13 445-445 445 380-380 380 70 470-485 475 385-405 394.68 6 510-510 510 397.5-397.5 397.5 Thin Fleshed 93 502-549 522 360-395 381.13 47 553-586 565 330-351 342.96 183 608-649 631 318-345 332.26 219 650-697 667 310-332 323.39 19 692-692 692 312-312 312 Replacement 518 700-744 720 294-319.5 306.01 78 745-745 745 288-288 288 Fleshy 351 753-799 766 304-323 309.67 Replacement 432 751-791 776 265-308 290.35 775 803-849 826 270-291 281.65 144 808-848 831 2425-2610 2534.31 Replacement 5 839-839 839 253-253 253 Fleshy 66 841-841 841 304-304 304 Replacement 348 854-870 859 289.5-323 296.22 Replacement 552 851-898 868 259-289 277.88 123 867-899 887 2500-2620 2585.79 Replacement 125 893-899 898 254-260.5 259.87 Fleshy 116 903-907 905 2580-2580 2580 Replacement 20 923-924 923 257-259 257.9 Fleshy 20 923-924 923 257-259 257.9 Fleshy 51 929-929 929 280-280 280 Replacement 226 951-994 964 241-270 254.14 HEIFERS - Medium and Large 1-2 (Per Cwt/Actual) Head Wt Range Avg Wt Price Range Avg Price 3 313-313 313 440-440 440 6 383-383 383 440-440 440 10 628-628 628 319-319 319 42 705-729 722 285-287 286.44 STEERS - Large 1 (Per Cwt/Actual) Head Wt Range Avg Wt Price Range Avg Price 144 1014-1018 1016 267-270.5 269.39 20 1049-1049 1049 254-254 254 Fleshy 117 1081-1081 1081 259.85-259.85 259.85 196 1100-1118 1112 258.25-263 262.32 50 1175-1175 1175 242.5-242.5 242.5 Fleshy STEERS - Large 1-2 (Per Cwt/Actual) Head Wt Range Avg Wt Price Range Avg Price 5 1098-1098 1098 249.5-249.5 249.5 STEERS - Medium and Large 1 (Per Cwt/Actual) Head Wt Range Avg Wt Price Range Avg Price 30 393-398 397 467.5-497.5 491.56 10 413-413 413 475-475 475 42 480-493 485 420-448 430.84 77 501-545 534 417-435 422.43 60 538-538 538 470-470 470 Unweaned 93 557-584 572 383-394 389.11 129 600-647 642 360-378 370.43 131 653-690 667 340-366 352.87 20 693-693 693 339-339 339 Full 189 703-743 718 320.5-342 337.46 13 754-792 769 309-315 311.38 Full 354 750-799 777 307-350 330.12 1231 801-849 831 289-325 316.56 739 857-891 867 287-316.5 309.4 18 894-894 894 266-266 266 Fleshy 695 906-939 923 282-291 287.01 156 951-991 966 271-280 277.21 13 984-984 984 268-268 268 Fleshy STEERS - Medium and Large 1-2 (Per Cwt/Actual) Head Wt Range Avg Wt Price Range Avg Price 5 347-347 347 520-520 520 6 478-478 478 415-415 415 15 501-527 517 337.5-382.5 354.96 3 558-558 558 365-365 365 14 613-627 624 337.5-358 353.68 11 665-679 671 315-343 327.87 49 750-791 766 298-310 299.77 8 831-831 831 260-260 260 11 918-918 918 261-261 261 Fleshy 48 952-975 973 259-267.5 266.63
