USDA South Dakota Weekly Auction Summary

USDA South Dakota Weekly Auction Summary 04/14 07:15 AMS_2027 MARS South Dakota Weekly Cattle Auction Summary -, Livestock Weighted Average Report for 04/07/2025 - Final Summary This Week Last Reported Last Year ------------------------------------------------------------ Total Receipts: ------------------------------------------------------------ FEEDER CATTLE 23188 4496 19639 SLAUGHTER CATTLE 764 504 1119 Compared to last week: A much larger offering of feeder cattle this week, feeder steers 6.00 to 10.00 higher, heifers 2.00 to 7.00 higher. Good demand for all weights of steers and heifers, but the best demand was centered on those light steers and heifers to background as supply of those cattle are very limited. The futures contracts remained volatile but cattle feeders were able to sell their fat cattle from 207.00-210.00, much higher than the spot futures month which closed the week at 202.00. Cattle producers have been trying to tune out any negativity coming from the futures complex, and instead focus on the bullish market fundamentals but the concern over the outside markets and their influence on the cattle markets is getting the attention of cattle feeders. Very dry condition remain across the state as widespread spring moisture has been elusive and the winds have been strong and persistent. --------------------------------------------------------------- FEEDER CATTLE --------------------------------------------------------------- BULLS - DTN Aghost Early Word Livestock

There is no ceiling on cash as packers aggressively purchase cattle. They were short-bought and may remain that way as they may buy only what they need. Hog futures were mixed at the close Thursday as traders seemed uncertain of which way the market would move in the near term.
