Very good demand for cattle again this week. A few more home raised cattle featured this week but also strings and loads of backgrounded cattle. A wider range in flesh condition this week with cattle coming off grass in light to moderate flesh to cattle out of yards in heavy flesh. Quality mostly average to attractive. An active market with a few less buyers attending but plenty of interest in filling pens. TREND: The trend for September corn is down.

NONCOMMERCIAL OUTLOOK: Noncommercial corn traders held a net-short futures position of 107,968 contracts as of Aug. 5, a decrease of 25,499 contracts as speculators took profits on short positions built up through the summer thus far.

COMMERCIAL OUTLOOK: Commercial corn traders held a net-long position of 147,872 contracts as of Aug. 5, a decrease of 16,025 contracts, week-over-week. The September 2025 contract is priced 22 3/4 cents lower than the December 2025 contract, a spread that widened again through the most recent week, indicating a comfortable level of old-crop supplies. DTN's National Cash Index indicated that corn basis faded 2 cents over the most recent week to 17...

Cattle futures spent about as much time in the negative as they did in the positive Wednesday, closing mixed. That hesitancy may continue Thursday until cash is confirmed. Hogs were under pressure from the sharp losses in cutouts on Tuesday and packers showed less interest Wednesday.
