USDA South Dakota Weekly Auction Summary

USDA South Dakota Weekly Auction Summary 08/28 16:20 AMS_2027 MARS South Dakota Weekly Cattle Auction Summary -, Livestock Weighted Average Report for 08/24/2026 - Final Summary This Week Last Reported Last Year ------------------------------------------------------------ Total Receipts: ------------------------------------------------------------ SLAUGHTER CATTLE 1320 799 1240 FEEDER CATTLE 9900 5663 7906 Compared to last week: Feeder steers and heifers unevenly steady. Moderate to good demand for yearling steers and heifers, demand much better for yearlings straight off grass in that highly desirable light flesh condition. Cattle feeders are very uncertain about the road ahead, as the cash fed cattle market fell below 220.00 by early week and the deferred months of the Live Cattle futures continue to slide lower. The severe drought is pushing yearlings off grass, some having to supplemental feed. Cattle feeders want to buy these yearlings while they can but are struggling to get them bought at prices that breakeven to where the futures contracts are at. Silage harvest underway already as corn is drying quickly as it stays hot and dry. --------------------------------------------------------------- SLAUGHTER CATTLE --------------------------------------------------------------- BEEF/DAIRY STEERS - Choice 2-3 (Per Cwt/Actual) Head Wt Range Avg Wt Price Range Avg Price Dressing 37 1366-1658 1546 215-217.5 216.33 Average DAIRY STEERS - Choice 2-3 (Per Cwt/Actual) Head Wt Range Avg Wt Price Range Avg Price Dressing 4 1433-1433 1433 217-217 217 High 17 1440-1618 1485 203-212 208.63 Average HEIFERS - Choice 2-4 (Per Cwt/Actual) Head Wt Range Avg Wt Price Range Avg Price Dressing 203 1314-1515 1395 214.5-219 216.94 Average STEERS - Choice 2-3 (Per Cwt/Actual) Head Wt Range Avg Wt Price Range Avg Price Dressing 29 1404-1456 1442 215.5-217 216.6 Average STEERS - Choice 3-4 (Per Cwt/Actual) Head Wt Range Avg Wt Price Range Avg Price Dressing 261 1510-1678 1577 214-219 216.08 Average 369 1601-1660 1631 215-219 217.22 Average Heavy Weight STEERS - Select and Choice 2-3 (Per Cwt/Actual) Head Wt Range Avg Wt Price Range Avg Price Dressing 23 1335-1378 1357 215-216 215.47 Average Return to Feed --------------------------------------------------------------- FEEDER CATTLE --------------------------------------------------------------- BULLS - Medium and Large 1 (Per Cwt/Actual) Head Wt Range Avg Wt Price Range Avg Price 5 469-469 469 385-385 385 4 538-538 538 402.5-402.5 402.5 14 707-707 707 334-334 334 BULLS - Medium and Large 1-2 (Per Cwt/Actual) Head Wt Range Avg Wt Price Range Avg Price 6 464-464 464 435-435 435 9 584-584 584 350-350 350 9 776-776 776 320-320 320 HEIFERS - Large 1 (Per Cwt/Actual) Head Wt Range Avg Wt Price Range Avg Price 256 1000-1037 1018 267-312 294.59 15 1064-1078 1071 278-298 291.46 45 1112-1112 1112 248-248 248 Fleshy 40 1108-1147 1131 282-288 284.98 22 1214-1217 1216 214-269 244.03 HEIFERS - Large 1-2 (Per Cwt/Actual) Head Wt Range Avg Wt Price Range Avg Price 8 1023-1023 1023 245-245 245 HEIFERS - Medium and Large 1 (Per Cwt/Actual) Head Wt Range Avg Wt Price Range Avg Price 6 242-242 242 650-650 650 8 351-351 351 525-525 525 11 458-465 461 445-445 445 8 505-505 505 410-410 410 16 576-576 576 395-395 395 36 601-629 613 342-362.5 353.82 19 662-686 672 352.5-367.5 358.95 104 704-749 728 317.5-357 349.44 69 763-770 764 265-303 299.11 Fleshy 74 776-776 776 368-368 368 Thin Fleshed 444 751-798 777 296-350 319.75 325 811-849 841 301-314.5 304.02 1178 850-899 869 287-329 312.9 5 877-877 877 270-270 270 Fleshy 948 904-947 925 285-328 303.1 131 961-961 961 273-273 273 Fleshy 787 958-993 981 274-322 294.35 HEIFERS - Medium and Large 1-2 (Per Cwt/Actual) Head Wt Range Avg Wt Price Range Avg Price 4 343-343 343 495-495 495 3 350-350 350 450-450 450 11 637-637 637 345-345 345 10 698-698 698 327-327 327 10 791-791 791 265-265 265 16 844-844 844 280-280 280 8 865-865 865 283-283 283 53 923-937 933 277-292 287.1 18 950-950 950 306-306 306 HEIFERS - Medium and Large 2 (Per Cwt/Actual) Head Wt Range Avg Wt Price Range Avg Price 6 885-885 885 230-230 230 STEERS - Large 1 (Per Cwt/Actual) Head Wt Range Avg Wt Price Range Avg Price 1103 1002-1046 1027 293.75-317 300 289 1053-1096 1072 284-294.75 291.04 39 1115-1115 1115 276-276 276 21 1174-1177 1176 263.25-269.5 266.53 STEERS - Large 1-2 (Per Cwt/Actual) Head Wt Range Avg Wt Price Range Avg Price 10 1068-1068 1068 275-275 275 STEERS - Medium and Large 1 (Per Cwt/Actual) Head Wt Range Avg Wt Price Range Avg Price 19 1070-1070 1070 286.5-286.5 286.5 5 297-297 297 595-595 595 16 316-321 318 585-612.5 602.09 10 365-365 365 550-550 550 31 403-403 403 530-530 530 19 456-483 465 470-485 477.04 5 534-534 534 425-425 425 25 637-646 640 365-391 378.48 8 698-698 698 370-370 370 34 706-733 725 348-383 362.51 23 730-730 730 327-327 327 Fleshy 84 750-798 758 339-362 353.33 191 800-841 819 320-354 344.82 13 852-852 852 305-305 305 Fleshy 225 850-883 864 323-334 328.36 977 900-949 925 302-335.5 328.24 703 953-998 973 301.75-320.75 309.08 STEERS - Medium and Large 1-2 (Per Cwt/Actual) Head Wt Range Avg Wt Price Range Avg Price 8 395-395 395 475-475 475 3 447-447 447 460-460 460 11 623-634 628 345-380 361.06 5 668-668 668 315-315 315 17 794-799 796 301-309 303.84 11 855-855 855 302-302 302 Fleshy 34 901-937 919 298-305 302.46 15 989-989 989 290.5-290.5 290.5 STEERS - Medium and Large 2 (Per Cwt/Actual) Head Wt Range Avg Wt Price Range Avg Price 6 704-704 704 315-315 315 5 811-811 811 260-260 260

Livestock futures have remained generally quiet early Friday morning, with increased focus on the afternoon release of the cattle on feed report.
