Compared to last week: Slaughter steers and heifers 4.00 to 7.00 higher. Solid 
demand seen from packer buyers with plenty of uniform lots and loads to choose 
from. The offering consisted of lighter cattle to add more weight to, all the 
way up to cattle that have had a healthy amount of cracked corn in their diet. 
A handful of the cattle displayed mud with most showing good condition overall.

Compared to last week: Slaughter lambs 10.00 to 30.00 lower. Feeder lambs 
sharply lower with limited comparisons. Slaughter ewes 5.00 to 15.00 lower. 
Moderate demand seen throughout a majority of this substantial offering of 
slaughter lambs.  Demand for feeder lambs and bred ewes going back to the 
producer tapered off as well.

CORN Strategies Snapshot

TREND: The trend for March corn is sideways for now.

NONCOMMERCIAL OUTLOOK: Noncommercial corn traders held a net-short futures position of 51,704 contracts as of Jan. 20 and were net-sellers of 18,281 contracts during the CFTC reporting period following a bearish surprise in the Crop Production and WASDE reports released by USDA on Jan. 12.

COMMERCIAL OUTLOOK: Commercial corn traders held a net-long position of 68,044 contracts as of Jan. 20 and were net-buyers of 19,121 contracts through the CFTC reporting period. The March 2026 contract is priced 7 3/4 cents lower than the May 2026 contract, mostly steady through the week. National average corn basis firmed a penny through the week to 35 cents under the March board.
