USDA South Dakota Weekly Auction Summary

USDA South Dakota Weekly Auction Summary 03/23 08:05 AMS_2027 MARS South Dakota Weekly Cattle Auction Summary -, Livestock Weighted Average Report for 03/16/2026 - Final Summary This Week Last Reported Last Year ------------------------------------------------------------ Total Receipts: ------------------------------------------------------------ SLAUGHTER CATTLE 411 928 1057 FEEDER CATTLE 10396 19381 18793 Compared to last week: Feeder steers and heifers 5.00 to 10.00 higher, instances of 12.00 to 15.00 higher. Very good demand for all weights of steers and heifers. A much lighter offering as the winter marketing season comes to a close, sale offerings become more sporadic as cow/calf producers are beginning their spring calving season and have already marketed their calf crop from last year. Cattle feeders were feeling better about the market as the boxed beef values rose above 400.00, giving them hope of higher fat cattle prices, which led to the feeder cattle market rising this week. Last weekend's storm is long gone and very warm weather has replaced it. Demand for a replacement quality heifers remains very high as spring turnout time is coming in another month. Drought continues to creep into the southern half of the state, as winter snows were very limited in this part. --------------------------------------------------------------- SLAUGHTER CATTLE --------------------------------------------------------------- BEEF/DAIRY HEIFERS - Choice 2-3 (Per Cwt/Actual) Head Wt Range Avg Wt Price Range Avg Price Dressing 36 1492-1492 1492 245-245 245 Average BEEF/DAIRY HEIFERS - Choice 2-4 (Per Cwt/Actual) Head Wt Range Avg Wt Price Range Avg Price Dressing 11 1664-1664 1664 236-236 236 Average BEEF/DAIRY STEERS - Choice 2-3 (Per Cwt/Actual) Head Wt Range Avg Wt Price Range Avg Price Dressing 21 1432-1749 1591 233-244 237.17 Average HEIFERS - Choice 2-4 (Per Cwt/Actual) Head Wt Range Avg Wt Price Range Avg Price Dressing 8 1339-1339 1339 244.5-244.5 244.5 Average Certified Prgms 17 1368-1502 1470 236-241 239.91 Average STEERS - Choice 2-3 (Per Cwt/Actual) Head Wt Range Avg Wt Price Range Avg Price Dressing 8 1449-1449 1449 244-244 244 Average Certified Prgms STEERS - Choice 3-4 (Per Cwt/Actual) Head Wt Range Avg Wt Price Range Avg Price Dressing 40 1516-1516 1516 244-244 244 Average 11 1566-1566 1566 246.5-246.5 246.5 Average Certified Prgms 32 1683-1683 1683 246-246 246 Average Heavy Weight --------------------------------------------------------------- FEEDER CATTLE --------------------------------------------------------------- BULLS - Medium and Large 2 (Per Cwt/Actual) Head Wt Range Avg Wt Price Range Avg Price 5 584-584 584 370-370 370 Thin Fleshed HEIFERS - Medium and Large 1 (Per Cwt/Actual) Head Wt Range Avg Wt Price Range Avg Price 17 366-370 367 515-550 523.3 10 400-441 421 510-517.5 513.93 86 462-499 494 445-500 487.57 197 504-542 517 432.5-475 457.31 155 558-599 576 416-458.5 437.66 362 604-649 625 393-431 411.71 275 662-695 677 353-403 386.28 77 682-687 684 349-358 353.78 Fleshy 513 701-747 725 352-386 370.07 510 751-790 771 325.5-368 351.92 129 800-827 809 321-340 326.06 24 839-839 839 309-309 309 Fleshy 180 856-888 869 309.5-327 318.71 26 908-908 908 340-340 340 Replacement 398 906-944 931 292-313 299.11 109 946-949 949 286-299 287.19 Fleshy 12 952-952 952 311-311 311 HEIFERS - Medium and Large 1-2 (Per Cwt/Actual) Head Wt Range Avg Wt Price Range Avg Price 6 444-444 444 485-485 485 Thin Fleshed 13 534-549 539 420-430 424.58 3 560-560 560 402.5-402.5 402.5 17 611-628 620 371-415 382.02 28 713-719 715 344-373 349.22 8 769-769 769 338-338 338 STEERS - Large 1 (Per Cwt/Actual) Head Wt Range Avg Wt Price Range Avg Price 310 1003-1040 1023 305-333.5 317.36 195 1098-1098 1098 294.5-294.5 294.5 STEERS - Medium 1 (Per Cwt/Actual) Head Wt Range Avg Wt Price Range Avg Price 89 698-698 698 407-407 407 STEERS - Medium and Large 1 (Per Cwt/Actual) Head Wt Range Avg Wt Price Range Avg Price 7 331-331 331 620-620 620 13 375-391 387 600-610 607.77 27 411-418 416 590-600 597.81 53 457-494 479 510-542 531.18 55 503-547 521 471-531 506.93 221 554-596 567 470-504 490.4 259 602-648 628 440-462.5 446.05 13 649-649 649 401-401 401 Fleshy 507 655-697 680 402.5-445 428.52 6 682-682 682 365-365 365 Fleshy 563 700-748 723 370-417.5 402.25 25 748-748 748 369-369 369 Fleshy 465 751-799 766 370-406.5 390.16 46 798-798 798 361-361 361 Fleshy 513 800-849 823 344-374.75 359.1 1580 850-899 871 341-372.5 358.25 626 908-948 927 328-352 342.75 755 952-994 967 314-338.5 327.38 STEERS - Medium and Large 1-2 (Per Cwt/Actual) Head Wt Range Avg Wt Price Range Avg Price 4 433-433 433 525-525 525 9 519-525 522 490-492 490.89 9 546-546 546 460-460 460 Thin Fleshed 8 554-568 561 445-470 457.34 9 615-615 615 439-439 439 29 655-698 665 380-385 381.27 50 724-738 735 374-395 378.55 28 797-797 797 347.5-347.5 347.5
