Compared to last week:  steer calves 500 to 599 lbs sold with lower undertones, 
600 to 649 lbs and 700 to 749 lbs mostly steady with instances up to 9.00 
higher on 600 to 649 lbs, other weight classes not well compared.  Best test on 
heifer calves 550 to 649 lbs mostly steady.  Good to very good demand for 
today's calf offering.  Many loads and packages of home raised cattle 
available, the majority were long time weaned, and most of these had several 
rounds of vaccinations.  Quality varied more than last week, ranging from plain 
to attractive.  More flesh overall than seen last week with some heavy flesh at 
times today.  An active market despite a tough day on both live and feeder 
cattle futures.  High wind warning across the area today keeping quite a few 
cattle in place until the conditions improve.  Next feeder cattle sale is

CORN Strategies Snapshot

TREND: The trend for March corn is sideways for now.

NONCOMMERCIAL OUTLOOK: Noncommercial corn traders held a net-short futures position of 51,704 contracts as of Jan. 20 and were net-sellers of 18,281 contracts during the CFTC reporting period following a bearish surprise in the Crop Production and WASDE reports released by USDA on Jan. 12.

COMMERCIAL OUTLOOK: Commercial corn traders held a net-long position of 68,044 contracts as of Jan. 20 and were net-buyers of 19,121 contracts through the CFTC reporting period. The March 2026 contract is priced 7 3/4 cents lower than the May 2026 contract, mostly steady through the week. National average corn basis firmed a penny through the week to 35 cents under the March board.
