USDA South Dakota Weekly Auction Summary

USDA South Dakota Weekly Auction Summary 09/14 07:40 AMS_2027 MARS South Dakota Weekly Cattle Auction Summary -, Livestock Weighted Average Report for 09/07/2026 - Final Summary This Week Last Reported Last Year ------------------------------------------------------------ Total Receipts: ------------------------------------------------------------ SLAUGHTER CATTLE 626 710 1623 FEEDER CATTLE 9402 6100 11843 Compared to last week: Yearling feeder steers and heifers 10.00 to 20.00 higher, instances to 30.00 higher on 900-950 lbs steers. Very good demand for yearling steers and heifers, especially by late week as the futures contracts rallied and reports of cash fed cattle at 225.00. Cattle feeders are ready to take on these good, light fleshed yearlings right off grass, and know they will have to compete heavily as the yearling supply is tight this year. However, with outgoing fed cattle losing money and the futures not supporting the cash markets as breakeven prices are much higher than the level the futures are at. Few strings of spring born calves coming to town already, as the drought has been severe and grass is very short. Moderate demand for those calves as most cattle feeders aren't ready to take on a bawling calf yet. --------------------------------------------------------------- SLAUGHTER CATTLE --------------------------------------------------------------- DAIRY STEERS - Choice 2-3 (Per Cwt/Actual) Head Wt Range Avg Wt Price Range Avg Price Dressing 15 1174-1174 1174 200-200 200 Average HEIFERS - Choice 2-4 (Per Cwt/Actual) Head Wt Range Avg Wt Price Range Avg Price Dressing 6 1302-1302 1302 222-222 222 Average Certified Prgms 182 1351-1532 1398 216-221.75 219.03 Average HEIFERS - Select and Choice 2-3 (Per Cwt/Actual) Head Wt Range Avg Wt Price Range Avg Price Dressing 32 1219-1222 1220 218-225 220.19 Average Return to Feed STEERS - Choice 2-3 (Per Cwt/Actual) Head Wt Range Avg Wt Price Range Avg Price Dressing 19 1371-1481 1440 215.25-216.5 216.06 Average STEERS - Choice 3-4 (Per Cwt/Actual) Head Wt Range Avg Wt Price Range Avg Price Dressing 66 1546-1571 1565 216-217.5 217.02 Average 236 1604-1709 1631 215.75-217.5 216.57 Average Heavy Weight --------------------------------------------------------------- FEEDER CATTLE --------------------------------------------------------------- BULLS - Medium and Large 1 (Per Cwt/Actual) Head Wt Range Avg Wt Price Range Avg Price 22 864-864 864 310-310 310 HEIFERS - Large 1 (Per Cwt/Actual) Head Wt Range Avg Wt Price Range Avg Price 371 1001-1048 1024 278-307 292.13 59 1067-1067 1067 280-280 280 39 1103-1147 1113 264-284 270.35 HEIFERS - Large 2 (Per Cwt/Actual) Head Wt Range Avg Wt Price Range Avg Price 15 1003-1003 1003 298-298 298 HEIFERS - Medium and Large 1 (Per Cwt/Actual) Head Wt Range Avg Wt Price Range Avg Price 9 271-271 271 450-450 450 4 334-334 334 475-475 475 198 353-393 373 444-580 526.31 11 377-377 377 500-500 500 Full 104 426-426 426 427-427 427 101 460-471 468 401-414 404.42 10 547-547 547 359-359 359 28 626-626 626 392.5-392.5 392.5 28 684-684 684 359-359 359 40 700-720 708 334-344 339.11 228 753-792 770 320-354 341.17 570 803-847 843 310-330 326.43 5 845-845 845 324-324 324 Spayed 869 851-893 870 297-329 321.37 63 881-881 881 327-327 327 Spayed 1084 901-949 918 293-319.5 312.62 613 954-997 972 278-314 302.25 HEIFERS - Medium and Large 1-2 (Per Cwt/Actual) Head Wt Range Avg Wt Price Range Avg Price 7 841-841 841 300-300 300 STEERS - Large 1 (Per Cwt/Actual) Head Wt Range Avg Wt Price Range Avg Price 61 1016-1016 1016 287.25-287.25 287.25 Fleshy 210 1007-1047 1028 302-312 310.99 320 1053-1084 1062 292-309.5 305.66 102 1146-1148 1147 272.25-272.25 272.25 STEERS - Medium and Large 1 (Per Cwt/Actual) Head Wt Range Avg Wt Price Range Avg Price 17 300-313 305 505-555 536.87 155 357-385 374 500-590 536.61 165 403-429 424 490-577.5 560.71 123 466-468 466 450-484 454.44 5 479-479 479 450-450 450 Full 92 507-545 516 438-449 446.35 88 585-585 585 431-431 431 23 645-645 645 410-410 410 24 661-670 667 376-380 378.16 536 816-848 831 356-372.75 369.6 5 869-869 869 330-330 330 Fleshy 463 858-895 879 333-371.75 360.71 642 929-949 941 313-350.5 343.29 574 950-976 965 299-342.25 331.85 111 980-982 981 289-303.5 295.52 Fleshy

DTN AgHost Midday Livestock Comments

Livestock futures have remained generally quiet early Friday morning, with increased focus on the afternoon release of the cattle on feed report. Although limited additional cash market activity is expected to be seen until late afternoon, the early movement of steady price levels from last week's levels may set the overall trend of the market for the week.
