Pierre Livestock Auction-Fort Pierre,SD Livestock Weighted Average Report for 06/06/2025 - Final Auction This Week Last Reported Last Year ------------------------------------------------------------ Total Receipts: ------------------------------------------------------------ FEEDER CATTLE 10816 5440 10935 Compared to two weeks ago: Steers from 600 lbs to 850 lbs were generally 12.00 to 20.00 higher; heifers from 600 lbs to 899 lbs were mostly 10.00 to15.00 higher with instances of 20.00 higher. No other comparisons available. Muddy roads in some areas caused several cancellations. A big run of cattle with a large crowd in attendance for the 28th Annual WLAC Anniversary Sale. Plenty of fall calves, weaned or unweaned offered mostly in part loads and packages. Multiple consignments of reputation replacement heifers were offered in multiple loads, up to 3 loads in the same sort. Bigger background cattle destined for the finishing yard were in very good demand with multiple consignments offered in multiple loads, up to 10 loads of the same sort. Flesh conditions ranged from light fleshed cattle that had been turned out on pasture to moderate plus coming out of a grow yard. A very active market on all classes of cattle with internet buyers competing with the order buyers and farmer feeders that were in attendance. Best demand was on the light fleshed cattle suitable for summer grazing operations. TREND: The trend for July corn is down.

NONCOMMERCIAL OUTLOOK: Noncommercial traders held a net-short futures position of 81,059 contracts as of June 3, an increase of 60,726 contracts as solid crop conditions and friendly weather kept sellers active during the CFTC reporting period.

COMMERCIAL OUTLOOK: Commercial corn traders held a net-long position of 104,725 contracts as of June 3, an increase of 52,161 contracts, week-over-week. The July 2025 contract is priced 8 1/2 cents higher than the September 2025 contract, a spread that weakened significantly over the past week. DTN's National Cash Index indicated that corn basis firmed over the most recent week to 23 cents under the July board, an improvement of 1 cent on the...

The livestock complex closed mixed as the cattle contracts remained cautious, but the lean hog complex had enough fundamental support to close fully higher. Big items to watch for on Thursday will be the morning's WASDE report and any developments in the fed cash cattle market.
