Pierre Livestock Auction-Fort Pierre,SD Livestock Weighted Average Report for 05/09/2025 - Final Auction This Week Last Reported Last Year ------------------------------------------------------------ Total Receipts: ------------------------------------------------------------ FEEDER CATTLE 6917 6070 5049 Compared to the last feeder sale two weeks ago; Steers from 550 lbs to 599 lbs were steady to 5.00 higher, steers from 650 lbs to 699 lbs , 750 lbs to 799 lbs, 850 lbs to 899 lbs were 10.00 to 15.00 higher; Heifers from 550 lbs to 649 lbs were 12.00 to 15.00 higher, 650 lbs to 749 lbs were mostly steady, 750 lbs to 799 lbs were 10.00 to 12.00 higher, 800 lbs to 849 lbs were steady with higher undertones noted. No other comparisons available. A large run of cattle for todays auction. Plenty of fall calves, weaned or unweaned offered mostly in part loads. Multiple consignments of reputation replacement heifers were well received. Bigger background cattle destined for the finishing yard were in very good demand with multiple consignments offered in multiple loads, up to 9 loads in the same sort. Fleshed ranged from light fleshed cattle that had been turned out on pasture to moderate plus coming out of a grow yard. A very active market on all classes of cattle with internet buyers competing with the order byers and farmer feeders that were in attendance. Best demand is on the light fleshed cattle suitable for summer grazing operations The cash market on all classes of cattle continues its upward trajectory. CORN Strategies Snapshot

TREND: The trend for July corn is sideways.

NONCOMMERCIAL OUTLOOK: Noncommercial traders held a net-long futures position of 115,899 contracts of corn as of May 6, a decrease of 59,530 contracts week-over-week as traders continue to sell out of corn futures positions.

COMMERCIAL OUTLOOK: Commercial corn traders held a net-short position of 75,297 contracts as of May 6, a decrease of 53,357 contracts week-over-week. The July 2025 contract is priced 20 3/4 cents higher than the September 2025 contract, a spread that weakened significantly over the past week. DTN's National Corn Basis continued to climb over the past week to 28 cents under the July board, an improvement of 2 cents week over week.

The livestock complex had a somewhat lethargic day, as the only real excitable action was in the lean hog complex. No new cash cattle trade developed throughout the day. May corn is up 2 1/2 cents per bushel and May soybean meal is down $0.60.
