Pierre Livestock Auction-Fort Pierre,SD Livestock Weighted Average Report for 09/12/2025 - Final Auction This Week Last Reported Last Year ------------------------------------------------------------ Total Receipts: ------------------------------------------------------------ FEEDER CATTLE 2412 3291 5321 Compared to two weeks ago: best test on steers 850 lbs to 899 lbs were 3.00 to 5.00 lower on limited numbers, best test on heifers were 850 lbs to 899 lbs were steady to 6.00 higher, heifers from 900 lbs to 945 lbs were 6.00 to 8.00 lower, heifers from 950 lbs to 999 lbs were steady to 4.00 higher on limited numbers. Market felt softer overall today and with the futures market substantially lower this week its understandable. Good to very good demand for todays yearlings that were mostly off pasture and attractive for quality. Flesh conditions ranged from light fleshed to moderate flesh depending on pasture conditions. Today offering consisted of a couple consignments of steers off grass, a long string of spayed heifers off grass and multiple consignments of tested open replacement heifers. An active market with mostly order buyers competing with internet buyers as cattle feeders try to keep pen space filled. Best demand for full loads or multiple loads of the same sort. Silage chopping is in full swing in the area. A chance of rain this weekend, Next feeder sale will be September 26, 2025, the 78th Anniversary Sale. TREND: The trend for December corn is revised to sideways.

NONCOMMERCIAL OUTLOOK: Noncommercial corn traders held a net-short futures position of 54,244 contracts as of September 9, an increase of 1,789 contracts as traders were holding positions steady ahead of the USDA report on September 12.

COMMERCIAL OUTLOOK: Commercial corn traders held a net-long position of 85,990 contracts as of September 9, a decrease of 1,824 contracts week over week. The December 2025 contract is priced 17 cents lower than the March 2026 contract, a spread that narrowed slightly through the week on the expectation of slightly lower production to be estimated by USDA. DTN's National Corn Index implies a corn basis of 42 cents under the December...

The livestock complex closed mostly higher Thursday afternoon as traders were willing to lend the market some mild support. Friday will be a significant day for the livestock complex, particularly the cattle complex, as the cash cattle market is expected to see increased trading activity and the monthly Cattle on Feed report will be released.
