DTN Weekly DDG Price Unchanged on Average

MINNEAPOLIS (DTN) -- The DTN spot price for domestic distillers dried grains (DDG) from 33 locations reporting for the week ended Feb. 6 was steady on average at $159 per ton versus one week ago. DDG prices were mixed for the week but unchanged on average. The cash corn price was up for the week but didn't seem to have much of an effect on DDG prices and a merchandiser noted that trade was slow. The DTN National Average Corn Index was up 5 cents versus one week ago.

Based on the average of prices collected by DTN, the value of DDG relative to corn for the week ended Feb. 6 was 0.899%. The value of DDG relative to soybean meal was 51.89% and the cost per unit of protein for DDG was $5.89 compared to the cost per unit of protein for soybean meal at $6.45.

U.S. Grains Council in its weekly distillers dried grains with solubles (DDGS) export market prices report showed as of Feb. 6, February CIF NOLA barge price was up $6 at $205 metric ton (mt); FOB vessel Gulf price was down $1 at $218 mt; rail delivered PNW was down $5 at $233; and rail delivered to California was down $4 at $245 mt.

According to new statistical reports released Feb. 6 by the Renewable Fuels Association, distillers grains shipments registered at 12.2 million metric tons (mmt), the second highest ever.

"Distillers grains exports totaled 12.2 mmt in 2024, representing 37% of domestic production. Export volumes were valued at $3.2 billion. The U.S. supplied distillers grains to more than 50 countries via 24 domestic ports and exit points. Mexico remained the top export market with a 21% share, followed by South Korea, Vietnam and Indonesia. Colombia, the European Union, and Turkey were the largest growth markets in 2024, with increases of 68%, 46% and 42%, respectively, compared to 2023," said the RFA.

The U.S. Energy Information Administration reported overall ethanol production in the United States averaged a 10-week high 1.112 million barrels per day (bpd) in the week ended Jan. 31, up 97,000 bpd week-on-week and 79,000 bpd, or 7.1%, higher than in the same week last year. Four-week average output at 1.08 million bpd was 106,000 bpd above the same four weeks last year. Midwest ethanol production averaged 1.058 million bpd, up 94,000 bpd week-on-week and 75,000 bpd, or 7.1%, higher than in the same week last year. Four-week average output at 1.026 million bpd was 104,000 bpd above the same four weeks last year.
