DTN Weekly DDG Price Higher on Average
MINNEAPOLIS (DTN) -- The DTN average price for domestic distillers dried grains (DDG) from 35 locations reporting for the week ended Dec. 28 was $269 per ton, up $1 on average from one week ago. Prices were mixed, but overall, ended up slightly higher on average.
DDG prices have been on a steady climb in December as cash corn prices have been rising. The DTN National Corn Index is up 21 cents versus one week ago. Since the first of December, the DTN National Corn Index is up 25 cents. The slowdown in production is also adding strength to some of the prices, but the downside to higher corn prices is weaker plant margins.

The Energy Information Administration (EIA) on Thursday showed that through Dec. 23, there was a 66,000-barrels-per--day (bpd) decline in ethanol plant production during the week leading up to the Christmas weekend to 963,000 bpd, with the output rate down 96,000 bpd against a year ago. During the four weeks ended Dec. 23, ethanol plant production averaged 1.032 million bpd, 40,000 bpd below a year ago.
Based on the average of prices collected by DTN, the value of DDG relative to corn for the week ended Dec. 28 was 1.10%. The value of DDG relative to soybean meal was 57.69%, and the cost per unit of protein for DDG was $9.96 compared to the cost per unit of protein for soybean meal at $9.82.
