OMAHA (DTN) -- The DTN average price for domestic distillers dried grains (DDG) from 34 locations reporting for the week ended Dec. 22 was $193 per ton, up $3 per ton on average versus one week ago.

DDG prices were higher on average this holiday week as corn prices have been on the rise and soybean meal prices continue to surge. Meal prices Wednesday reached their highest in nearly six months and that rise is still due in part to the synthetic lysine shortage. DTN wrote about it in late November and the impact it has on meal. https://www.dtnpf.com/…

Wednesday's Energy Information Administration (EIA) report showed overall ethanol production declined a second week, falling 36,000 barrels per day (bpd) to 1.051 million bpd, about 8% above the same week in 2020. Midwest PADD 2 plant production also continued lower, sliding 34,000 bpd to 991,000 bpd as of Dec. 17, 6.7% above output during the corresponding week last year.

Based on the average of prices collected by DTN, the value of DDG relative to corn for the week ended Dec. 22 was 89.68%. The value of DDG relative to soybean meal was 47.91% and the cost per unit of protein for DDG was $7.15, compared to the cost per unit of protein for soybean meal at $8.48.
