OMAHA (DTN) -- Of the 40 locations DTN contacted with spot offers for domestic distillers dried grains (DDG) for the week ended July 30, prices were at $128 per ton, unchanged on average versus the prior week. The DTN National Corn Index was 13 cents lower versus one week ago, and the national average basis was unchanged, but DDG prices remained steady this week.

Based on the average of prices collected by DTN, the value of DDG relative to corn for the week ended July 30 was 113.51% and above the five-year average of 109%. The value of DDG relative to soybean meal was 44.17%. The cost per unit of protein for DDG was $4.74, compared to the cost per unit of protein for soybean meal at $6.10.

In its weekly export DDGS update, the U.S. Grains Council said, "Offers for DDGS on the export market are mostly higher this week with Barge CIF NOLA values up $4 to $5 per metric tons (mt) and FOB Gulf offers rising $1/mt for spot shipment. Merchandisers report that international demand is picking up following a minor seasonal slowdown in July. Offers for DDGS CNF Southeast Asia are $1/mt higher for August and September shipment this week and are up $5/mt for October/November. The average offer for 40-foot containers to Southeast Asia is $234/mt this week."

The Energy Information Administration said U.S. ethanol inventory rose 2.5% in the week ended July 24 from a more than 3 1/2-year low in the week prior, as production rose over 5% to the highest level since the week ended March 20, with demand rising at a slower pace than in recent weeks.
