Earlier this year American Honda Motor Co. introduced the first in its new line of side-by-sides -- the Pioneer 700-4.

The Pioneer 700-4 incorporates a convertible-seating configuration that switches between two-, three-, or four-person seating. But the 700-4 is sized like a two-seater. The two rear seats fold, making the tilt-bed space fully available.

Now, Honda is rolling out its second model in the Pioneer line for 2014 -- the two-seat, Pioneer 700 with a 675cc liquid-cooled engine.

This version carries two passengers and up to 1,000 pounds in gear and supplies. The cargo bed tilts with a hydraulic assist. The Pioneer 700 also tows 1,500 pounds.

"Quick acceleration, good top speed and smooth-riding long-travel suspension are some of the keys to what makes the Pioneer 700 special," Honda says in a release about its new vehicle.

Here are some of the Pioneer 700's features:

-- Torque converter with three hydraulic clutches and positive engine braking.

-- Fully independent rear suspension with 9.1 inches of travel; rear shocks feature preload adjustability.

-- All-new air intake design helps minimize dust and particulate ingestion.

-- Engine rubber-mounted on a separate sub-frame to reduce vibration.

-- 450-watt alternator provides power for accessories, such as winches and extra lighting.

-- Front independent double-wishbone suspension with 7.9 inches of travel.

-- Hydraulic discs on all four wheels; patented scraper system helps prevent debris buildup between caliper and rim.

The Pioneer 700 will be available in three colors: red, olive and Honda Phantom Camo.

Honda expects the Pioneer 700 will be available beginning this September. The company has yet to announce a price.

Honda is freshening its ATV line with new color offerings for 2014 that will be available this fall.

-- The FourTrax Rincon (675cc engine, independent rear suspension, electronic fuel injection) will be available in beige with black wheels. This color is in addition to olive and red.

-- FourTrax Foreman Rubicon (499cc, Hondamatic automatic trans, engine braking, electric shift and electric power steering). The new color for 2014 includes white with black wheels. It is already offered in olive and red.

-- FourTrax Rancher AT (420cc, fully automatic trans or an Electric Shift Program mode for push-button shifts on command, selectable 4WD/2WD TraxLok). The new color for 2014 includes white with black wheels. It is also available in olive and red.
