Biodiesel RINs Maintain Value on Steady Demand

After gaining 4.0 cents last week, 2014 D4 Renewable Identification Numbers, the credits used by refiners, blenders and importers to show compliance with annual blending mandates stated in the Renewable Fuels Standard, were flat in starting the second half of November.

"I think that there's still demand for biodiesel but the (physical) price has been falling off based on price for other types of fuels," said Pete Moss, president and biodiesel analyst for Frazier Barnes and Associates, Memphis, Tennessee.

"But there's still demand for biodiesel so RINs are helping to make us some of that difference."

2014 D4 biomass-based diesel RIN credits are holding at 54.0 cents this morning with no trades heard so far. 2014 D4 RINs traded several times Friday at 54.0 cents, up 2.0 cents on the session and 4.0 cents higher on the week.
