Spot Ethanol Prices Decline on Bearish Supply Data
Spot ethanol values declined in early trade Wednesday at Chicago and New York as the market eyes increased supply on higher production and lower demand reported late morning Wednesday.
"The market acted as it should," commented Jarrod Kitt, strategist for the Linn Group in Chicago, Illinois, this afternoon.
U.S. ethanol inventory increased 300,000 bbl to 18.0 million bbl for the week-ended Sept. 5, EIA data showed, well above the 16.3 million bbl supply level one year ago, while ethanol plants increased output 6,000 bpd to a 927,000 bpd three-week high compared to 848,000 bpd year prior.
Ethanol inputs at refineries and blending facilities fell 30,000 bpd to 850,000 bpd, the lowest demand rate since early May.
Chicago spot ethanol was pegged in early afternoon at $2.005 per gallon, down 3.5 cents. New York Harbor ethanol barges were talked at $1.95, down 6.0 cents.
