Spot Ethanol Prices Gain on Supply Shortages

Spot ethanol prices extended higher Friday on short covering ahead of the weekend break, with traders saying limited railcar capacity delayed shipments to end-users along the East, West and Gulf coasts where supply is currently tight while demand is up.

Prompt ethanol at Argo was pegged at a $2.21 to $2.26 per gallon bid/ask, up 4.5 cents on the day and at a two-month high. Prompt New York Harbor barge is talked up 0.5 cents at a $3.05 to $3.10 per gallon bid/ask, a 2 1/2-month high, with prompt Las Vegas ethanol valued at $3.15 per gallon, up 1.5 cents.
