West Coast spot ethanol prices soared early Friday on tight regional supply, a trade source said, while spot prices in other hubs were mixed in lackluster early trade ahead of the expiration this afternoon of the May ethanol futures contract on the Chicago Board of Trade.

Next week delivered ethanol in Phoenix, Arizona, traded at $2.84 gal, up 9 cents on the session. Prompt delivered ethanol in northern California traded early at $2.78 per gallon before being pegged at $2.82 to $2.85 per gallon bid/ask, up 6.5 cents on the session.
