The U.S. Grains Council assisted a Tunisian grain buyer in finding sources for dried distillers grains with solubles, according to an article on the Council's website (http://bit.ly/…).

The Chaabouni Group imported its first container of U.S. DDGS in 2010; however, subsequent high U.S. corn prices made it difficult to purchase mixed corn/DDGS shipments. For several months, Chaabouni Group president Hatam Chaabouni tried unsuccessfully to source U.S. DDGS. He finally bought a mixed shipment of DDGS, soybean meal and soybeans.

After that purchase, Chaabouni attended the Council's Export Exchange conference in October. The Council's staff helped him expand his sources of U.S. producers and exporters. He also witnessed the unloading of the vessel delivering his purchase, the largest ever to call on the port of Sfax, Tunisia.

The Council followed the shipment with a DDGS information day in Tunis, Tunisia, featuring speeches on the economic benefits, uses and characteristics of DDGS.
