More specifically, my hope for the holidays is that everyone has their own happy place, regardless of where it is physically, as long as it takes you there mentally.

Where having fun with the family makes you realize that they can be your best friends and not just roommates that you navigate life with. Where new friends are made around happy hours, boat rides, horseback rides, or sporting events instead of marketing club and agronomy meetings (not that there is anything wrong with those either).

Where you have an opportunity to teach the next generation that work should support your life, not be your life -- while leading by example. And realizing that if it is not practiced as much as it's preached, succession and sustainability will be that much more difficult.

Where you have an opportunity to spend quality time with your children instead of just quantity time, being able to mentor them in ways a screen never could. All the while trying to help mold the next generation of leaders.

Where the sights and sounds of nature put the challenges of work and life in perspective (that may seem almost overwhelming at times), allowing you to shrink the farm and market stresses, reminding you of what is truly important in life.

Wherever that may be, my hope is that everyone either has their own or finds it.

And with that, from my family to yours -- wishing you all a very Merry Christmas and a happy, healthy and prosperous New Year!
