As of week 6, or the week ending September 13, the total volume of all-grains shipped by primary elevators since August 1 totaled 4.9843 million metric tons. This volume is 10.9% or 609,800 metric tons below the same period in 2014 although it is 15% above the three-year average.

The largest year-over-year changes are seem in shipments of both wheat and durum. Wheat shipping, at 2.252 mmt as of week 6, is 404,800 mt or 15% below volumes shipped in the same period in 2014. Durum shipping, at 323,500 mt, is down 380,800 mt or 54% from the volume shipped in the same period last year.

Cumulative shipments of canola, at 1.1462 mmt, is 11.4% higher than last year, while total volumes of dry peas shipped from primary elevators is pegged at 771,300 mt, up 8.1% from the aggressive pace of movement achieved in 2014.

As of week 6, the cumulative volume of all grains shipped from terminal elevators to export destinations was reported at 3.8354 mmt, down 17.8% from 2014 although 9% above the three-year average. The Canadian Grain Commission reports volumes at Bay and Lake ports to be slightly ahead of the volumes shipped in the first six weeks of 2014, while Pacific terminals are 291,400 mt below 2014 volumes, Churchill is 188,900 behind, Thunder Bay is 56,900 mt behind and St Lawrence terminals are 346,300 mt behind 2014 volumes.

Total licensed exports reported by the CGC are indicated at 4.1701 mmt, down 837,000 mt from the cumulative volume shipped as of Week 6 in 2014. On both a tonnage and percentage basis, the export movement of durum is showing the largest year-over-year decline, with durum exports 548,000 mt or 74.4% below the same week last year. Wheat exports are down 278,900 mt or 11.1% below year-ago volumes. Year-to-date canola exports are higher than year-ago volumes at 868,800 mt, up 28,900 mt or 3.4%. Despite the increased movement of peas from primary elevators, exports are trailing last year's volume in the first six weeks of the crop year, down 100,400 mt or 17.3%.
