Saskatchewan Crop Ratings Advance
Saskatchewan crops have improved overall, with only three of 14 crops that do not have a rating above 80% Good to Excellent in the most recent report as of July 23. These include canaryseed (79%), and the winter crops including winter wheat (73%) and fall rye (77%), which had a poor start due to a delayed spring. Five of 14 crops saw their ratings drop slightly as of the week ended July 23, while the other nine crops saw improved ratings.
The attached chart for selected crops shows the dip in ratings faced by crops such as oats, barley and canola in late June through early July, along with the sustained recovery since that time, which has eased concerns in the market for the time being.
The current Good to Excellent ratings for selected crops as compared to the five-year average for the approximate time period are:
Spring wheat -- 87% vs. the five-year average of 74.2%
Durum -- 87% vs. the five-year average of 71.5%

(I will be away on vacation during the week of July 29 through August 2. I will look forward to updating this blog with happenings in the industry upon my return.)
