HCC LAUNCHES AUTONOMOUS LOUVER TECHNOLOGY

HCC Inc., a manufacturer of assemblies for harvesting equipment has announced its latest product, SieveSense, an autonomous louver positioning system. HCC said its louver positioning sensor enables automatic cleaning shoe adjustments on the fly in variable crop conditions, terrain environments and cleaning shoe loading conditions.

Current louver position technology requires the operator to set a one-time louver position with manual updates during operation. SieveSense, HCC said, autonomously accounts for every variable that can influence the louver position -- terrain, crop condition, shoe shake and other variables. Algorithms adjusts louver position without operator involvement.

SieveSense also features a predictive maintenance benefit that proactively monitors the overall health of the mechanical system. The internal accelerometer monitors the shoe condition to flag irregularities or impending shoe failure.

"We knew that the way in which combine operators historically interpreted louver position was only an estimate," said David Young, director of engineering at HCC Inc. "Then, we simply asked the question, 'what would happen if it were more exact?'"

The answer was clear, Young said. Increasing louver position accuracy results in improved harvest efficiency and reduced operator workload. "Everything is aimed at efficiency right now," explained Young. "We're not going to grow more corn or soybeans. The challenge is finding ways to do it with fewer people and resources."

HCC is a designer and manufacturer of pickup reels, sieves, chaffers, and other components for OEM manufacturing and harvesting equipment.

STEYR won in the Product Design category for its new Terrus CVT tractor, produced at the brand's St. Valentin, Austria manufacturing facility. The award was given for the Terrus' "combination of function and form, blending a bold and rugged exterior design with a premium interior focused on operator comfort and ergonomics."

The cab has been restructured to create a better working environment and now serves as a 'command center' in which style has purpose, STEYR said.

Founded in 1953, iF Design is widely known as a symbol of design excellence.
