Poll: 75% of Voters Back Year-Round E15 as Senate Returns From July 4th Recess
LINCOLN, Neb. (DTN) -- As Congress comes back from a break for the Fourth of July, the result of a new poll shows increasing support for permanent year-round E15 among registered voters.
The poll conducted by Morning Consult on behalf of the Renewable Fuels Association surveyed 2,039 registered voters from June 23 to June 25, finding 75% support for expanding the availability of E15. About 70% of respondents said they supported federal legislation to allow E15 year-round permanently.
Such a bill sits in the U.S. Senate's hands at a time when the Republican majority is weakening following the death of Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., over the weekend and uncertainty about the health of Sen. Mitch McConnell, R-Ky. Read more about that here: https://www.dtnpf.com/….
Geoff Cooper, president and CEO of the RFA, said in a news release about the poll that it was time for the Senate to finish its work on E15.

"The message from voters is unmistakable: Americans want lower-cost options at the pump and they see E15 as part of the solution," he said. "The Senate has a clear opportunity to deliver what voters want by making E15 available year-round, nationwide. The House has already passed year-round E15 legislation and President Trump has repeatedly called on Congress to make this a priority. Now, it's time to finish the job of tearing down outdated regulatory barriers and giving families access to a lower-cost, cleaner-burning fuel option when they need it most."
RFA has polled voter opinions on E15 every quarter for the past several years and the group said the June results represent "new record highs" for E15 support.
Just 11% of voters surveyed expressed opposition to making E15 more widely available and to federal year-round E15 legislation.
Cooper said E15 was found to be supported "strongly" by registered voters in both major parties who responded to the poll.
The survey found expanding E15 is supported by 75% of Republicans and 77% of Democrats and year-round E15 legislation is backed by 73% in both parties.
"This strong support for higher ethanol blends extends to E85 flex fuel as well, with more than two-thirds of voters believing it important for the federal government to promote the production and sale of flex-fuel vehicles," the RFA said in a news release. "Further, 57% would be interested in acquiring an FFV as their next vehicle, compared to only 43% for electric vehicles."
