Week 48 Grain Producer Deliveries Dip

Producer grain deliveries into the licensed handling system dipped to 941,600 metric tons in week 48, the lowest seen in six weeks while dipping below the three-year average for this week.

Producer grain deliveries into the licensed handling system fell sharply in week 48, or the week-ending July 5, from 1.4656 million metric tons in week 47 to 941,600 metric tons in week 48. This is the lowest deliveries seen since the dip during spring seeding seen in weeks 41/42.

It is possible that wet conditions slowed movement, while also possible that tightening supplies as we near the end of the crop year are slowing deliveries.

As of week 48, producers have delivered 58.012 mmt of all grains into the licensed handling system, up 7.5% from the same period last crop year and 10% higher than the three-year average. Looking at some of the major crops, deliveries of canola are up 6% from the three-year average, peas are 10.2% above average, durum deliveries are 13.1% above average and deliveries of wheat are 13.2% above average.

Despite deliveries well above the average pace, Canadian Grain Commission data shows stocks in primary elevators as of week 48 down 2.4% from the three-year average at 2.878 mmt. This ranges from Saskatchewan, where stocks are 0.25% below average as of week 48, to Alberta, with stocks down 3.4% from the three-year average and Manitoba, which is 8.2% below the three-year average.

A quick look at terminal stocks across the country shows licensed stocks at 2.2859 mmt as of week 48, 4.8% higher than the three-year average.
