Spot Ethanol Prices Mixed as Seasonal Demand Eyed

Spot ethanol prices were mixed during a thinly traded early session Thursday, with Argo and New York values down, while prices were higher in the Gulf Coast and Oregon regional markets.

Traders are looking for demand to pick up as weather warms, with data from the Energy Information Administration released Wednesday detailing a 2.7% jump in blender net inputs during the week-ended March 13 to 863,000 bpd.

The input rate is 2.1% higher than during the comparable year-ago period. Despite the demand boost, spot ethanol prices eased 1.0 cent to $1.42 per gallon at Argo and to $1.52 per gallon at the New York Harbor. Spot ethanol values for Houston and Dallas were both up 0.5 cents at $1.5350 and $1.5050 per gallon, respectively, while surging 5.5 cents in the Pacific Northwest to $1.65 per gallon.
